This month: Coco O Conner

Songstress  COCO  O’CONNOR  didn’t  grow  up  in  Europe,  but  that  didn’t  prevent  her  from  creating  some  of  the  most  innovative  euro-pop  this  side  of  the  Rockies!  Having  grown  up  in  a  small  town  just  north  of  Birmingham,  Alabama,  she  later  relocated  to  her  nest  high  on  a  mountaintop  outside  of  Santa  Fe,  NM  where  CoCo  currently  resides.    So  where  did  she  acquire  the  ability  to  bake  delicious  and  dynamic  pop  morsels?

HEAD 1:

It’s like a bath! - A bath you say? Yes I say. You never really like to go through with the whole drawn out process of having a bath but once you’re in you can’t get out. Coco’s style of music is very much like this, the music is very easy to listen to, and in places can surprise even the hard minded of us, but that’s as far as it goes.

The signing is spot on, the music is very well thought out and constructed and the production of all the tracks are generally good. Two tunes that really stand out for me are “Blink” and “Inside your love”, they are both very original and would sound great live.

Overall I would say a great edition to Epic Tunes, CoCo has really brought something unusual to the table here, definitely worth checking out!

Most Epic Song:

Higher Power by

CoCo o'Conner

HEAD 2:

Ranging from balads to more up beat dance, Coco has a refreshing approach using an electro-pop style. From the funky bass line of ‘Blink’ to the deep earth shaker of ‘Higher power’ the instrumental greatly compliments the vocal. Neither takes anything away from the other and the catchy lyrics together with harmonic synth sounds makes for a great combination. ‘Pillow’ is a great example of this., great lyrics together with a fantastic bass line. I will be singing this for the rest of the week!

Her voice is very crisp and very clean sounding with likeness to Madonna and Annie Lennox. Although Coco has created a contemporary, refreshing sound there are elements of the 80’s within the drum and synth tracks as in ‘Missing You’ which sounds great and in no way feels dated.

Higher power - For me this is the stand out track . A powerful almost haunting vocal over an electro-break beat with a bass line deep enough to shake the floor. The track slowly builds throughout and a steady tap of the foot suddenly turns into a satisfying head nod, then to a strong erg to get up and dance as an instrumental leads into the songs climax. The lyrics will have you singing along , “You can go to the higher power” only then leaving you feeling slightly disappointed when it fades out, perhaps prematurely. I wanted more!

Inside your love by

CoCo o'Conner

HEAD 3:

Im going to give a good honest quick answer, unlike my fellow heads.

The music is quite retro, well produced and easy to listen to. Good amount songs listed on Epictunes so plenty to sample.

My review can be summed up in the song "Inside your love"
